Robert Pattinson’s cameo in The Penguin

Synopsis

After the events of Batman (2022), Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin, is plotting to take control of Gotham’s underworld. We never got a glimpse of him except for the Bat-Signal in the season finale. In this short video, IMDb tries to answer: Where is Batman?. Colin Farrell fought hard to get his version of The Penguin Smoking Tobacco in Batman (2022) but failed. However, his own series portrays the character as an occasional tobacco user who prefers cigars.

It fits the tone and atmosphere perfectly

The DC Studios logo is in a rainy Gotham alley. The umbrella drops and the logo changes to the Warner Bros. logo. Graham Norton and guests: Lady Gaga/Demi Moore/Colin Farrell/Richard Ayoade/Jack Savoretti (2024). It’s gritty, dirty, and dark, but Farrell manages to capture the charm that Gandolfini did in Tony Soprano.

Where to start with Farrell

There are similarities to the Sopranos, especially in tone. There’s a lot of dark stuff in this opening sequence, but there are still moments of comedy that fit the tone without breaking it. Amazing is the right word. I love seeing talented actors play characters like this, and the makeup/cgi or whatever they did to turn him into a penguin not only passes the eye test but also looks incredibly realistic. If the makeup job is inadequate or even a little weak, there’s always the risk of it being a complete distraction.

Kudos to everyone involved in this project

In Penguin, it enhances his performance and the overall quality of the show, because it’s such a good job. And Farrell, as an actor, is completely immersed in this character. I may be a little biased because he was one of my favorite actors up until this show, but I think this will give him the credit he deserves. I never jump straight into new shows because I like to binge-watch all the episodes at once, but I wanted to see how this one actually turned out. I wasn’t disappointed, in fact I was shocked.
